Pace ("we", "our", "the app") is a social walking application that helps people discover nearby walking companions, create walk routes, and walk together. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
When you sign up we collect your email address and a password (stored hashed, never in plain text). During onboarding you may provide your name, date of birth, sex, profession, and personal interests (fun fact, favorite movie/series/books, hobby). All profile fields beyond email are optional.
Pace uses your device location to:
Location is collected only while the app is in the foreground. We do not track your location in the background. Live GPS positions during walks are ephemeral (broadcast in real time, not stored in our database).
You may upload a profile photo. It is stored in our cloud storage and displayed to other users.
When you create a walk we store the route, waypoints, distance, duration, title, description, and schedule. When you join a walk we record your participation.
Pace uses predefined messages only (no free-text input). We store which predefined message you sent, in which walk, and when.
After a completed walk you may rate your walking companions (1-5 stars). Ratings are stored and used to calculate average ratings shown on profiles.
If you grant notification permission we store your device push token to send you walk updates (someone joined, walk started, starting soon). The token is cleared when you sign out.
If you block or report another user we store that record to enforce the block and review the report.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.
We retain your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (Profile > Delete Account), all your data is permanently and immediately deleted, including your profile, walks you created, participation records, chat messages, ratings, blocks, reports, and profile photos. This action cannot be undone.
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Database access is controlled by row-level security policies. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device.
Pace is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of Pace after changes constitutes acceptance.
